Finding the best travel deals is a matter of time.

Many people think that travel is expensive, but the truth is that there are incredible deals all the time. They usually don't last long and you have to act fast. Sometimes it can be a problem when a deal requires you to jump on a plane tomorrow (how many people can do that?), but in reality, most deals are arranged months in advance, giving you plenty of time to plan your schedule.

Most of the time, I book a flight and then decide on plans.

Since you can usually cancel a flight within 24 hours without being charged, I'll fix the deal and see if it works. Sometimes I can (eg $1,200 business class round trip from Los Angeles to Stockholm); Sometimes I just can't (like when I had to cancel my $400 flight to New Zealand).

I'm always looking for suggestions.

Today I want to share with you travel tips, advice and expert advice on where I'm going. After all, these resources only focus on one aspect of travel, so why not use them? I can't know everything, so I trust the experts. If the trip is to the hospital, I will be your therapist.

These are the best companies I have used and here is a brief overview.

When it comes to finding flights, I use these four sites to find last minute deals. You'll always find new (and tempting) flights at the last minute, often for a fraction of what you'd otherwise pay. If you're looking for something last minute and have the flexibility to choose where and when to go, use these sites:

  • Flight Deals is a great resource for finding cheap flights from the US. If you live in America, start your research here.
  • secret flight If you live in Europe, you should start with this cheap airline ticket website as it has amazing cheap flights from Europe to many destinations around the world.
  • Holiday Pirates - This is a great website for cheap flights wherever you are, so check here for more deals.
  • Scott's Cheap Flights is another great resource for finding deals on US flights.

If you want to book a flight, use these search engines. It is important to remember that there is no one best online booking site. All search engine sites have blind spots, so it's important to search multiple sites before booking your flight. In general, the best booking sites are:

  • Skyscanner Skyscanner is a very intuitive platform for searching for open trips. If you're not 100% sure where (or when) you want to go, start your search with Skyscanner.
  • Google Flights is a good flight search site to add to your arsenal of cheap flights
  • AirTreks - If you're looking to plan a multi-city tour, AirTreks has great deals on multi-stop adventures around the world.

I always start my search with Skyscanner. They scour worldwide booking sites and airlines to make sure no deals are overlooked. They cast the widest possible net and constantly scan the sites they are looking for. Start with them.

Where to get the best airline news

Amazing view from the plane
When it comes to finding the latest airline and frequent flyer news, I turn to these sites for industry changes and loyalty programs, as well as potentially important travel news:

  • Wing View - This is my go-to place for airline and frequent flyer news.
  • The Points Guy is a great source of credit card and travel news and information.
  • One Mile at a Time is a great site for credit cards, flight experience and frequent flyer news.
  • Skift - The best place for all airline and travel news.

Check out the Points Hack for travel experiences in Australia and New Zealand.

I use Canadian Miles and Travel Prince for Canada.

For UK: go to paragraph.

As a very, very, very avid travel hacker (and I have my own unique tips and tricks), it's hard to stay up-to-date on your own when you travel so much, so I use these three sites to get by. according to follow me.. At the crossroads

Where to find the best cruise deals?

Cruise ship deck view
I think there is only one cruise site to subscribe to: Cruisesheet. This site always has the lowest prices and a beautiful interface.

If I can't find something on CruiseSheet or want to double the price, I go to the second best site, Vacationstogo.com.

Where to find the best transport deals?

Old US windmills on the open road
If you are looking for budget transportation, you should visit these sites. Inexpensive bus, train and ride-sharing apps can help reduce travel costs and give you more time on the road. Here are my favorites.

  • FlixBus is a budget bus company with routes across Europe and parts of the US.
  • Eurrail - offers a wide range of discount tickets for individual countries and the entire European region, including continental tickets.
  • Rome2Rio is a useful resource for finding and comparing budget transport options.
  • BlaBlaCar is a ride-sharing app that connects passengers with local drivers who are willing to pick them up for a small fee.
  • RVShare - The sharing economy platform for renting RVs and RVs directly to locals.
  • Turo is a car rental app that allows you to rent cars from locals for a short period of time.
  • The Japan Rail Pass is a cheap Japanese rail pass. Memberships are for 7, 14 and 21 days.

Where to find the best accommodation deals?

A bed, a table and a sofa in a hotel room
From hotels to hostels and campgrounds, there are tons of great websites to help you find deals and save money. Here are my suggestions to help you get started.

  • Booking.com is the best place to find hotels wherever you are. I usually start my search for hotel rooms here.
  • agoda.com Although you can use Agoda to find hotels around the world, I use Agoda specifically to find hotels in Asia. They seem to be ahead of the competition here.
  • Campspace - This app connects you with locals who rent RVs, RVs, cabins, and RVs from the countryside to glamping.
  • Trusted Housekeeper - Finding housekeepers and pets helps travelers connect with locals. Great for slow / long-term travelers.
  • Hostelworld is the best source for finding cheap hostels around the world. I use them on every trip I take and you should too!

Disclaimer : I stopped recommending Airbnb for several reasons. In this post, you can find out why I'm not a fan of Airbnb.

Where to find the best travel deals?

The tour group takes pictures during the trip
I follow the following companies by subscribing to their emails for sightseeing and travel

  • Intrepid Travel is my favorite small group travel company. They hire local guides and are great for both solo travelers and couples/groups.
  • Walking - Walking offers small group tours with local guides to some of the world's best cities.
  • EatWith - Lets you eat home-cooked meals with local chefs. Everyone sets their own prices (so prices can vary a lot depending on the chef), but it's a great way to do something different, learn from the locals and make new friends.
  • Fat Tire Tours offers bike tours to popular attractions in Europe and the United States. This is one of my favorite bike companies in the world.
  • Get Your Guide is also a great event aggregator with unique tours and events.

Where can I get the best travel insurance?

I never travel anywhere without travel insurance. In order to deal with injuries and emergencies abroad (and knowing many travelers who have been injured or robbed along the way), I always make sure I have full medical and travel insurance before I leave home. Here are the companies I recommend for finding the best travel insurance:

  • Safewing is my travel insurance company. They offer affordable monthly deductible plans. Perfect for digital nomads and budget travelers.
  • World Nomads offers comprehensive coverage for travelers who need more than the basics.
  • My travel insurance If you are over 70 and looking for insurance, this is the best place to find it.
  • Midget - Midget is a good choice for people who will be away from home and want extra coverage for evacuation. It's great for solo travelers and very affordable.

Book your trip. Logistics advice and guidance

Book your flight
Find cheap flights with Skyscanner. This is my favorite search engine because it searches websites and airlines from all over the world, so you always know that no stone is left unturned.

Book your stay
With Hostelworld you can book your hostel. If you want to stay somewhere other than hostels, use Booking.com as it always offers the lowest prices for accommodation and hotels.

Don't forget about travel insurance
Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft and cancellation. This is full protection if something goes wrong. I've never traveled without it because I've had to use it so many times. Here are my favorite companies that offer the best service and value:

  • Security (best for everyone)
  • Insure my trip (over 70s)
  • Midget (for additional permission)

Ready to book your trip?
Check out my resources page for the best companies to use when traveling. I am listing the ones I use when I travel. They are the best in their class and you can't go wrong on the road.
