Finding the best travel deals is a matter of time.

Many people think that traveling is expensive, but the truth is that there are always great deals. Usually they do not last long, and you need to act quickly. It can sometimes be a hassle when a deal has to hit the plane tomorrow (how many people can make it?), but the truth is that most deals are months in advance, giving you plenty of time to plan your schedule.

I often book tickets and then decide my plans.

Since you can usually cancel a flight within 24 hours without penalty, I will block the transaction and then decide if I can fulfill it. Sometimes I can (for example, a $1,200 business class flight from Los Angeles to Stockholm); sometimes I can't (like a $400 flight I had to cancel there).

I am always looking for offers.

Today I want to tell you where I can find travel deals, useful tips and advice. After all, these resources only focus on that aspect of the journey, so why not take a look at it? I can't know everything, I'll leave that to the experts. If the trip included a visit to the hospital, I would be your doctor.

Here is an overview of the companies I use and recommend:

When it comes to finding flights, I use these four sites for last minute deals. There are always new (and enticing) last-minute flights, often for a fraction of what you would otherwise pay. If you are looking for something last minute and flexible choice of where and when to go, use these websites:

  • Flight Deals is a great resource for finding cheap flights from the US. If you live in the United States, start your search here!
  • Secret flight. If you live in Europe, start with this cheap airfare site as you can find cheap flights from Europe to destinations all over the world.
  • Holiday Pirates - No matter where you are, this is a great website for cheap flights, so always check here for more deals.
  • Scott Cheap Flights is another great resource for finding US flights.

If you want to book a flight, use the search engines below. It is important to remember that there is no single best online booking site. All search engine websites have blind spots, so it's important to research a few places before booking a flight. In general, the BEST booking sites are:

  • Skyscanner: Skyscanner is a very intuitive platform that you can use to find open rides. If you're not 100% sure where (or when) you want to go, start your search with Skyscanner.
  • Google Flights is a good flight search site to add to your cheap flight arsenal.
  • AirTreks: If you're planning a trip to multiple cities, AirTreks has great deals on multi-stop adventures around the world.

I always start my research with Skyscanner. They scrutinize booking sites and airlines around the world to make sure no offer goes unnoticed. They cast the widest possible net, constantly crawling the sites they are looking for. Start with them!

Where to find the best airline news

beautiful view from the plane
When it comes to finding the latest airline and frequent flyer news, I turn to these websites that provide me with the latest on industry changes and loyalty programs, as well as any relevant travel news:

  • Wing View - Here I search for news about airlines and frequent flyers.
  • The Points Guy is a great source for news and information about travel and credit card hacks.
  • One Mile at a Time is a great website for credit cards, flights, and frequent flyer news.
  • Skift - The best place for all news about air travel and tourism.

To hack Australia and New Zealand travel visit the Points Hack.

For Canada, I use Canadian kilometers and Prince of Travel.

For the UK, go to points.

As a very, very, very passionate travel hacker (and I have my own tips and tricks), I find it hard to keep track of myself when you travel for a long time, so I'll be using these three sites to keep up. to date. date loop

Where to find the best cruise deals

In my opinion, there is only one website for cruise deals: CruiseSheet. This site consistently has some of the lowest prices and has a beautiful interface.

If I can't find anything on CruiseSheet or want a price, I go to the second best site, Vacationstogo.com.

Where to find the best transportation deals

If you are looking for an affordable form of transportation, these are the sites to visit. Low-cost bus, train, and ride sharing apps can help you cut travel costs and give you more time on the road. Here are my favorites:

  • FlixBus is a cheap bus company serving all of Europe and parts of the US.
  • Eurrail: Offers discounted tickets to different countries and entire regions of Europe, including tickets to the entire continent.
  • Rome2Rio: A useful resource for finding and comparing available transport options.
  • BlaBlaCar is a sharing app that connects travelers with local drivers who are willing to give them a ride for a small fee.
  • RVShare - Sharing platform for renting RVs and RVs directly from locals.
  • Turo is a car rental app that allows you to rent cars from locals in a short time.
  • Japan Rail Pass: A cheap and exclusive Japanese rail pass. Subscriptions are available for 7, 14 and 21 days.

Where to Find the Best Hosting Deals

Bed, table and sofa in a hotel room
From hotels to hostels to campsites, there are plenty of great websites where you can find deals and save money. Here are my suggestions to get you started:

  • Booking.com: The best site for finding hotels around the world. This is usually where I start looking for hotel rooms.
  • agoda.com. While you can use Agoda to find hotels worldwide, I specifically use Agoda to find hotels in Asia. They seem to stand out from the competition.
  • Campspace - This app connects you with locals who rent plots, RVs, huts and RVs, from the countryside to glamping.
  • Trusted Homesitters: Helps travelers connect with locals looking for a home and pet sitter. Perfect for slow/long term travelers.
  • Hostelworld is the best resource for finding cheap hostels around the world. I use them every time I travel and you should too!

Disclaimer : I stopped recommending Airbnb for a number of reasons. In this article, you will learn why I am not an Airbnb fan.

Where to find the best travel deals

Group of tourists posing for a photo while traveling
For tours and excursions, I follow the following companies and subscribe to their emails:

  • Intrepid Travel is my favorite small group travel company. They employ local guides and are great for solo travelers and couples/groups.
  • Walks - Walks organizes small group tours with local guides to some of the best cities in the world.
  • EatWith - Homemade meals allow you to eat with local chefs. Everyone sets their own price (so prices can vary a lot depending on the chef), but asking a few locals and making new friends is a great way to do something different.
  • Fat Tire Tours offers bike tours to popular attractions in Europe and the United States. This is one of my favorite bike companies in the world.
  • Get Your Guide is a great event aggregator that also has its own special routes and events.

Where to find the best travel insurance

I never travel anywhere without travel insurance. When dealing with injuries and emergencies abroad (and knowing many other travelers who have been injured or robbed along the way), I always make sure I have travel and medical insurance before I leave home. Here are my recommended companies to find the best travel insurance:

  • SafetyWing is my favorite travel insurance. They offer affordable monthly deductible plans. Perfect for digital nomads and budget travelers!
  • World Nomads: Offers comprehensive insurance coverage for travelers who need more than the essentials.
  • Insure my trip. If you are over 70 and looking for insurance, this is the best place to find it!
  • Medjet: Medjet is a good option for people who are away from home and want extra coverage to avoid mistakes. It's great for solo travelers and very affordable.

Book your trip: Logistics tips and tricks

Book your flight
Find a cheap flight with Skyscanner. This is my favorite search engine because it searches for websites and airlines all over the world, so you always know that no stone is left untouched.

Book your stay
On Hostelworld you can book a hostel. If you want to stay not in a hostel, but in another place, use Booking.com, which always has the cheapest prices for accommodation and hotels.

Don't forget travel insurance
Travel insurance protects you against illness, injury, theft and cancellation. This is complete protection if something goes wrong. I never travel without it as I have had to use it several times in the past. My favorite companies that offer the best service and value for money are:

  • SafetyWing (best for everyone)
  • Insure my trip (for people over 70)
  • Medjet (for optional exhaust cover)
