The 6 Best Hostels In Warsaw

The 6 Best Hostels in Warsaw

Beautiful old town of Warsaw, Poland with many historical buildings and churches.

Warsaw is perhaps one of the most underrated European capitals. This bustling Polish city of about 1.8 million was nearly destroyed during World War II. But then the magic happened: it was reconstructed with painstaking precision. It's a great place that always seems to work in the future. The city seems to be moving and I like it.

In addition, it has everything that can be found in popular Western Europe - history, museums, delicious food, vibrant nightlife - but for a small fee. This is a very accessible place for travelers and it would be a shame not to spend more time here.

There are many hostels in Warsaw and I wanted to list some of my favorites.

But before you book accommodation, here are four things to consider when choosing a hostel in Warsaw:

  1. Location - Warsaw is such a big city that you should try to find your favorite part of the city and find a hostel there. Otherwise, you will spend a lot of time traveling.
  2. Price - As with any city, you get what you pay for. If you choose a very cheap hostel, chances are you will find a small, cramped and poorly maintained hostel.
  3. Convenience . Every hostel in the city has free Wi-Fi, and in most of them you can cook your own meals. Some, but not all, include free breakfast, so look for one that suits your needs.
  4. Staff . All the hostels listed here have excellent staff, very friendly and knowledgeable. Even if you don't stay at any of the following places, be sure to read the reviews to make sure you have friendly and helpful staff. You can make or break a hostel!

Below is my list of the best hotels in Warsaw. If you don't want to read the list below, here are the top hotels in each category:

Best Hostel for Budget Travelers : Kapsula Hostel
Best Party Hostel : Oki Doki Hostel
Best Solo Traveler Hotel : Safestay Warsaw
Best hostel for families: Chillout Hostel.
Best hostel for best hostel overall: Hostel Centrum.

Want to learn more about each hostel? Here is a list of the best hotels in Warsaw and why I love them:

  • $$$ = from PLN 141

1. Capsule hostel

A cool, elegant and private capsule located in Warsaw, Poland.
Capsule or Capsule Hostel was created on the basis of famous Japanese capsule hotels and hostels, the first of which was opened in 1979 in Osaka. Everyone gets their own small capsule (there are also regular double capsules). Each of them is enough for a comfortable sleep. You can close the capsule with the remote control; There is air conditioning, sockets and light (as well as curtains). The hostel also has free Wi-Fi, as well as a café and lounge. There are also many bars and cafes in the area.

While not the best choice for meeting other travelers, the price is very reasonable and the capsule bed is very comfortable. Bathrooms are spacious, clean and modern. This is definitely not a very social hostel, which makes it a good choice for those looking for a relaxing holiday. The hostel is located in the city centre, just a 15-minute walk from the main square Rynek Starego Miasta in the old town.

Oki Doki is located in the very center. If you enjoy visiting museums and exploring historical sites and sights while spending time in bars and pubs, this beautifully located hostel is for you. The streets around Oki Doki are full of interesting pubs. Every night there is a "happy hour" where you can meet other travelers.

The rooms are comfortable with thick mattresses and curtains to ensure a restful sleep (even the beds don't squeak, which is a big plus). There are also women-only rooms and lockers to store your belongings (the lockers are not huge, so travelers with big bags might not be lucky). Some rooms have air conditioning, but you will have to pay extra for it. Overall, this is a lively and sociable hostel that makes it easy to meet other travelers.

One of the cozy bunk rooms at the SafeStay Hostel in Warsaw, Poland.
Safestay is Europe's leading small hostel chain. It's always a good choice (especially if you're traveling alone as they have women-only rooms). The location is close to the old town so that's great. There is a lively bar on site. The hostel offers activities such as pizza parties and game nights to meet other travellers, as well as an exciting Warsaw walking tour that covers all the main sights.

Overall, this hostel has a great vibe with all kinds of art and quotes in the lounges and common areas. The bedrooms have thick mattresses and curtains for privacy, as well as individual electrical outlets and lighting. There was a lock under the bed, but a small one. If you want to relax and unwind, the upstairs bar offers all kinds of board games.

4. Relaxing hostel

Fantastic interior of Chillout hostel in Warsaw, Poland
Chillout is not located in the center of Warsaw like other hostels, but very close to the Palace of Culture and Science, Royal Baths Park and Nowy Sweet Street shopping center. It has a small kitchen where you can prepare your own meals and while the bunk beds in the bedroom are not particularly comfortable, the rooms are clean and spacious. The Warsaw Chillout chain offers women-only single rooms and larger rooms for traveling families who want to be together.

The staff here are very friendly and will go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. While the bedrooms are basic (the beds are a bit creaky and no curtains), the mattresses are good and there are enough closets for most of the luggage. The rooms are spacious too.

5. Youth hostel Lovska 11

Baby cot in the hostel of the Lawska 11 hostel in Warsaw, Poland.
This cozy hostel is just a 15-minute walk from the main train station. The rooms are basic but clean with basic beds and good mattresses. There are also lockers to store your belongings, an on-site kitchen, complimentary tea and laundry service for 4 nights. There are several restaurants within walking distance if you want to eat out and a grocery store if you want to cook.

Overall, this hostel has a calm and relaxing atmosphere and is not the best place to meet people. However, if you want a relaxing holiday and want to mind your own business, this hostel is a good choice.

6. Youth Hostel Center

Comfortable beds in spacious rooms at the Centrum Hostel in Warsaw, Poland
Hostel Centrum is located in the city centre. Location is certainly important, but Centrum offers so much more. You really want to learn about the history of Poland during your visit, which is why the walls and corridors here are lined with images of famous Poles throughout history. Scan the QR code on your mobile and find out who this or that person is and why they are important to Warsaw and Poland. This is a great feature and I wish there were more hostels like this.

Most rooms face a quiet, tree-lined courtyard. The dorms have comfortable thick mattresses (but no curtains) and lockers. There is a kitchen if you want to cook your own food.

Book Your Trip: Logistics Tips & Tricks

Book your flight
Find cheap flights with Skyscanner. This is my favorite search engine because it searches for websites and airlines from all over the world, so you always know that no business interest will be lost.

Book your stay
You can book hostels on Hostelworld. If you want to stay outside of hostels, use Booking.com as it consistently offers the lowest prices for hotels and hostels.

Don't forget travel insurance
Travel insurance protects you against illness, injury, theft and cancellation. This is complete protection in case something goes wrong. I have never traveled without it as I have had to use it so many times before. My favorite companies for great service and value for money:

  • SafetyWing (best for everyone)
  • My travel insurance (for people over 70)
  • Medjet (for additional issue coverage)
